Matt Benham, Guitar Alchemist

Watching Matt Benham perform can be disorienting. He plays an electric guitar, which is familiar enough. But the sounds that emerge from his amp sound like they’re wired from intergalactic space. A special effects alchemist — with a rig of pedals worthy of NASA — he spontaneously engineers audio signals in real-time, and his original music conjures other worlds. Matt is an improviser and frequent collaborator in Seattle’s jazz and experimental music scenes — for example, he’s an essential part of Lotus Lungs and Spontanea. And he’s an innovator of the prepared guitar.

Matt’s solo album Odd Infractions is now available on digital streaming for the first time. OI includes newly remastered versions of nine original compositions. One of these pieces, “Delicate Giantess,” is featured on the Right Brain Records compilation, Gitaristo Futura.
