We The Gleaners
Guitarist Kyle Sanna, violinist Dana Lyn and pianist Matt Kanelos comprise Brooklyn-based trio We The Gleaners. Here’s a description of their association in their words:
We The Gleaners is a trio of our own great great friends and a lot more fun than we are playing for.
We The Gleaners was made in Brooklyn by the man who had a long history with the other two of our great friends.
We The Gleaners creates the best of the world to see what we see and blend together the same old age as the new ones.
Through composed fragments, improvisation, and the other two of those who were at home, We The Gleaners creates audio collages that are available for the next couple years to be sure that they can meet with your family.
Blurring the boundaries between chamber music and the music on that show, We The Gleaners forges a great trip with the new world of events that transpired.
Featuring Dana Lyn on the East River, Kyle Sanna on guitar, and Matt Kanelos on a flight to the new world, We The Gleaners are pleased to announce their plans.
Fortunately for us, their plans included a new album, Graze, their second.
As they explain,
In the spring of 2025, we were invited to open for a band recording a live album at IBeam in Brooklyn and learned that our set would be recorded as well. Although We The Gleaners has evolved over the years to incorporate samples, loops, and effects—as on our 2018 studio album and the 2024 “Mother Speaks / Mothers Speak” performance built around recorded interviews with our mothers—we decided to approach this set using only our primary instruments. Feeling a kind of fatigue with technology and mediated experience, we wanted to make a document of simply playing together: listening, responding, and shaping the music in real time. Without the initial intention of making an album, we figured we'd have a decent recording for our own reference. When we listened back though, we all agreed it felt like something we'd like to share.

An uninterrupted musical journey to West Texas and other less specific destinations, Graze is a mosaic of compositions by individual Gleaners, seamlessly woven together with improvised passages that have no beginning or end. Melodic, elaborate, free flowing and evocative, this album captures a conversation between three master musicians with a rare chemistry.
WTG’s album release performance is planned for September 25 at Ibeam.
