ZTB

ZTB is an international partnership of three artists: noise experimentalist Ondrey Zintaer, of Košice, Slovakia; pianist Paolo Tognola of Brescia, Italy; and drummer Filippo Bøtøx Cocozza of Venafro, Italy. The trio has diverse influences, traditional and untraditional (including the Tiptons, a project of our own Amy Denio). They began collaborating online after the onset of the pandemic. With a shared interest in stretching musical boundaries, they’ve released several recordings, each a unique statement.

ZTB is concerned with “now,” not just making music in the moment, but also channeling the energy and moods currently affecting them, their families and close associates. Their album Fear of War is an example. Zintaer lives just 100 km from the Ukrainian border, in a community has been deeply affected by the brutal assault on that country. In a challenging winter for all of Europe, Right Brain Records is pleased to announce the digital streaming release of this album, which reflects the immediacy of the struggle for peace and justice.

In the tradition of free jazz, Fear of War is spontaneous and cathartic, and captures the distinct musical personalities of each member of the trio. Zintaer’s raw improvisation on saxophone complement’s Tognola’s refined mastery of the keyboard and Cocozza’s primal percussion, as the group explores the boundaries between composition and experimentation.
